New Site for the South Shore; A New Comrade For Me.
I recently became acquainted with the author/manager of South Shore Times an entertainment and local directory site in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. Nick Scott has developed a great looking site to fill a void in the community by offering a great looking site without any other agenda than to be able to support the site and himself on ad revenues. The area does have another “community directory” and events site but is owned by the local media and is focused on building subscribers and not on the content.
Nick’s site is currently Flash based, but is easy to read and navigate. Ideally this site should be moved onto a database driven CMS. It is not perfect, but the most important factor and the reason I really like this guy is, that he is open to new things, growing and learning.
Nick has no pretencions and when I offered some strong criticism of his site he thanked me and implemented most of the changes I suggested. In addition, we sat down for coffee and talked for nearly two hours about making the website and internet community in the South Shore area better and bringing some aesthetics and web standards to businesses that desperately need to.
The lesson for me is to experience Nick’s no nonsense attitude and honesty has confirmed my opinion that if you are open to other people you can become better at what you do and how you do it.
