Viva Castro - Elizabeth!
It is hard to believe this book came out two years ago. Today “web designers” are still building table-riddled pages with more mark-up than blades of grass on a golf course.
A terrific reference book for people who are just getting into XHTML and CSS as well as those who need a quick desk reference. Elizabeth Castro’s HTML for the World Wide Web, Fifth Edition with XHTML and CSS: A Visual Quick Start Guide, 2003, Peachpit Press.
While this is not the be-all-and-end-all for standards based website development, it is a great handbook for those who are getting tired of loading their WYSIWYG web editor and are ready to switch to a full featured text editor or at least the code-view of your visual editor. The book has great images and shows by examples, rather than forcing you to do a whole bunch of hand coding to see results of the code. Many instructional texts can focus too much on teaching than completing simple tasks associated with a project.
